Riquelme Family |
We had a lesson with Roberto, he is a very old, very sick, very peg-legged, very evangelical man. But he loves the missionaries and also he comes to church every single week. He has even tried to bear his testimony during fast and testimony meeting, but they told him that they ran out of time. But he is hilarious whenever he talks he kinda of mumbles which makes it even better when he tells his conversion story about how the Lord healed him, he is mumbling along in his story and all of the sudden he screams SO loud, "SEÑOR!!!!!!" and then goes back to mumbling... Ive heard his story a few times.
This week I had a minicambio with Elder Jensen, he is a football player from BYU, but he is awesome, and let me tell you, we did work. In his sector he has had almost no progression for the past month and bam working together (along with the spirit) we committed four people to church and committed another to church and to a baptisimal date, both of the families and part member families and we are trying to change that into ALL member families. But something interesting that I learned from Elder Jensen is that in teaching the gospel there are three different levels of expertise, 1. Teaching the lesson, 2. Teaching the lesson with questions to see if they understand and are in agreement and all that good stuff and 3. Having a discussion with them and guiding them to teach themselves. We should all strive to be at the third level.
This week we were able to help an "eternal investigator" accept a baptismal date by sharing with her part of 3 nephi 30. It was awesome, she is in a rough place right now and isn't sure if she should get a divorce with her husband (member of the church) because of some of the things he has done, but she told us that she is just unsure about what she should do, so when we explained about the function of the Holy Ghost that we receive after baptism, she was intrigued.
My cooked cereal bowl |
This past P-Day Elder Kreiling made some german pancakes in our apartment, but it all went horribly wrong.... First off he had dripped a bit of oil into the oven before he started cooking (the ovens here have open flames) and so about half way through the cook time our apartment started to smell a little funny, aka the oven caught on fire. Also I could not tell you who did it, but someone had put my cereal bowl in the oven, maybe thinking it would be a funny joke, but nobody checked the oven before they turned it on and put something in the oven to cook. So when we finally were able to put the fire out with found another surprise... it womped.
This week was awesome because we were able to do a ton of service for the members, from dismantling old floors, to cleaning and attempting to organized sheds (two surprises here 1. Poisonous spiders and 2. an unusual number of empty wine containers... hmmm.), we painted and did some electrical work, we moved tanks of gas, and best of all we shared the gospel.
